Hello!
I can't really help you with hotels in Marseille because I only spent a day there, BUT I have taken the Paris-Marseille train with a RailPass!
Since you own a RailPass, you only need to purchase the reservation, not the actual ticket. There are two ways to do that:
1. Buy the reservation in advance online using Rail Europe ( [link] ). This is the best option if you are STILL in the US/Canada/UK and ABSOLUTELY need to travel on those exact dates. Mark the round trip radio button, enter your dates and preferred travel times, enter the number of people who are traveling (Youth = under 25), and CHECK the final box because you have a Rail Pass.
Reservations are usually $11.
2. Buy the reservations once you are in France. Since I did not know of my specific travel plans before I left for Europe, I used this option.
Go to a train station (Gare SNCF). Wait in line at the ticket counter. Ask to book a round trip ticket from Paris to Marseille. Say that you have a Rail Pass. If you have not already done so, ask the person at the counter to validate your pass. (More information about using your pass here -> [link] and here -> [link] ). My reservations cost me 5 EUR each way. The TGV (high speed train in France) takes 3 hours.
If you have any more questions, feel free to post a reply or contact one of the moderators. ALSO: the stickies are super helpful, so don't be afraid to browse through those. |

| For hostels, I would check out StudentUniverse's hostel page. I would also check out www.hostelz.com and I would check out the GENERAL/TRANSPORT INFO sticky in the Europe forum. Just to let you know, you are going to have to pay more than $15-17. It is going to be more in the range of $20-25. |
