So you've decided to travel to Japan, and going there not knowing anything can be a disadvantage, so here are some basic everyday phrases and then some.

In Japanese some words have differnt levels of meaning for example the simple thank you. Arigatou Gozaimasu. If you just say Arigatou that is like saying thanks, Arigatou gozaimasu is similar to Thank you and Doumo Arigatou Gozaimasu is similar to thank you very much.

Basic Greetings and Phrases

*Jarimasen(not) is opposite of desu (is)

I can understand japanese A little, but i'm not very good yet.
<watashi wa> nihongo ga sukoshi wakarimasu, demo mada jouzu jarimasen
*see how the sentence becomes restructured
well/good(skilled)         Yoku

Excuse me where is Hibiya ave? sumimasen, hibiya dori wa doko desuka
*dori = ave

Usually in the phrases will contain feminine and masculine equalivants, for instance watashi the male version is boku while the female version would be atashi. Anata female would be kimi male. I will indicate M or F. So GUYS should say the M and females should say the F.
Allow us to introduce ourselves
M- Boku tachi no jikoshoukai sasete
F- Atashi tachi no jikoshoukai sasete

Would you introduce yourselves to us?
M- Kimi no tomodachi wo shoukai *beep*?
F- Anata no tomodachi wo shoukai *beep*?

Where do you live?
Doko ni sunderu no? [more formal, i.e. if someone else introduced you]
Dokkara kita no?

How old are you?
Nansai?

Are you a student?
Gakusei desuka?

What's your major?
daigaku de nani wo senkou *beep* no?

What's your occupation ?(if not a student)
shigoto nani *beep* no?

What do you do on your free time? (Hobbies/ activities)
Itsumo nani *beep* no?

Your really pretty
m- kimi tte hontou ni kawaii ni <or> kirei dayo

Your really handsome
f- Anata tte sugoku kakkoii ne
m- suteki dane

You have a nice personality
f- anata no seikaku suki yo
m- kimi no seikaku suki dayo

Your intresting.
m- Kimi tte miryo kuteki dane
f- anata wa mirou kuteki ne

I would like to talk to you some more(implies to talk again )
m- kimi to motto *beep*
f- anata to motto *beep*

I like your hair
m- kimi no heasutair ga suki
f- anata no heasutairu ga suki

Your clothes are very fashionable
m- *beep* no sensu ga ii na
f- *beep* no sensu ga ii ne

Are you in a relationship?
Tsukiatteru hito iru?

You must have many Girl/Boy friends
f- kanojo ippai irun deshou
m- kareshi ippai irun darou

You must be popular
f- Moteru deshou
m- Moteru darou

Will you like to go on a date?
f- Atashi to dekakenai
m- Boku to dekakenai

Caio i'll see you later today
ato de mata ne

I'm glad we met
Aete yokatta

sexy - seku shii na
loud - nigi yaka na
chubby - potchari *beep* or buyo buyo (slang)
slim - yaseteru
smart - akarui / atama no ii
funny - omoshirou
rich$$ - okane mochi no
outgoing - shakoteki na
pretty teeth - ha no kirei na (japanese consider crooked teeth and overlapping front teeth as sexy ?_? )
cute - kawaii
scary - Kowaii (becareful not to mix it up or you'll get slapped)
