My family and I are taking our first family vacation in about 15 years this summer. We live in southern Illinois and are not looking to have to go very far, but were wondering if anyone had any suggestions for fun places to go around the area....maybe as far east as north carolina and as far west as colorado...any suggestions at all would be much appreciated.
thanks, josh |

| The Dells in Wisconsin are usually pretty cheap, I take it you've been to Chicago, so I guess there's not much else to do in the MidWest. |

| How many people are in your family? What is everyone's age? If you are looking for amusement parks, Ceder Point in Sandusky, Ohio is one of the best in the country. If you want to do more outdoors activities like camping or rafting, Tenneesse(sp?) is a good location. |

Depends on what your family enjoys doing.
-If you all love music there are numerous festivals within the vicinity you're looking for-most of which are family friendly-but beware of the wodstock like occurences that can happen at most music gatherings. Bonnaroo is a huge weekend event in manchester, TN that happens mid june.
-memphis TN would also be a great place to visit at least once in your lifetime, the presley house is an american classic that is definately memorable!
-Oklahoma would be nice to get the family's remembrance of the bombing. that memorial is a beautiful representation of what happened... absolutely breathtaking, and the surrounding town is small, quaint, yet has a great nightlife!
-if you are willing to drive to colorado there are millions of things to do-white water rafting and crazy extreme sports are all the rage in that area becasue the geography is amazing
-and just a few hours drive beyond Colorado is what i consider to be my most favorite spot in the U.S....UTAH! the drive from colorado to utah is an amazing experience...you go from the blistering cold highlands to dry desert with breathtaking views!! the national parks are endless. my fave=arches, and just a short drive is bryce, zion and cannyonlands...
-if nat'l parks are fun for u, try wyoming as well!
best of luck and happy travels, feel free to post me back with any ?s _________________ Krista |
