Hi,

I do need some help.
I'm planning to make a backpacking-trip through the states. I will arrive in New York, at first. My plan is to get to the north (boston)... from there I'd like to fly to the northern west-coast (seattle). Then comes the nice part:

I'll travel all the way down to Mexico.

I know that you guys in America are not very into trains like we do Smile. So i guess the only way to travel is by bus or a rental-car.

Just to give me an impression about the costs: how much will such a bus trip approximately cost (from town to town...) ? And do you have any idea how much it'll cost to rent a car?

Thank you,
Steffen

I would look up Amtrak, it is the major train service in the U.S. It'll get you from Seattle down to at least San Diego. I live in Spokane (about 3 hrs away from Seattle) and have taken the train down to San Diego. It cost me something like $120US to get down there. You can also look up Greyhound, which is the major national bus service. Hope you have fun.

Andrew

I took a roadtrip ast summer across the U.S. it was an amazing experience! we thought of traveling by bus or train at first, but decided by car would be the best and cheapest way, we never had to follow anyone else's schedule and we found the best deals just driving around.

I'd schedule hotels in advance if you can, hostels and camping are very cheap and some campsites are very luxurious depending on where you go!

we went from NYC down to Bonnaroo in TN to the grand canyon, LA, up coastal rt. 1 and up to chicago then back home to CT stopping along good locations! mexico is a great idea, i thought of it while in LA, but after i friend got arrested in mexico i thought otherwise! be careful if u decide to go!

my trip took a little more than a month and between 2 people cost about $1500 which is not bad at all. we'd stay in a hotel about 3 nights out of the week and camp the rest.

the best cities by far were Moab UT, Memphis TN, anyhere in Wyoming, San francisco and niagra falls i'd say ....best western hotels gave us the most for the $, buy a guide book, i followed "Let's go USA" religiously and it gave great advice on where to stay eat and see.
i hope this helps let me know if u have ?s i'd be happy to help!
best of luck
-Krista
