Paris over christmas and new year

a few friends and i are going to be in paris over the new year. we have a few touristy plans for the daytime. does anyone have any suggestions for the best new year party areas/events? or general suggestions about the best clubs/areas for students? we are traveling on a budget, but plan to spend more on new year. thanks for any help!
