Ghana, on the west coast of Africa, is a little oasis of (relative) calm in the middle of a number of troubled countries. The current home of refugees from Togo and Liberia, Ghana is also a center of relief efforts by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Internship and volunteer opportunities with these organizations abound.
If you're interested in working in journalism, human rights, refugee policy, or health and nutrition policy, you'll find organizations working in Ghana who would be happy to have you.
Among others, the following organizations work in western Africa, and base some of their operations out of Ghana:
- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Internship information can be found at
- Journalists for Human Rights runs a program based in Accra. More information can be found at
(There are more -- I just don't know the websites off the top of my head!) |
