The system does seem picky. You can purchase one-way tickets going from Brussels to NYC and NYC to Brussels, but not a round trip ticket. There may be a limit to the amount of round trip tickets available through Student Universe. I would call Student Universe (1.800.272.9676) and see if you can book over the phone.

Im looking to get a ticket to Rome Italy in the Fall, but i wanted to know about open ended return dates since i might not be returning until May (ill have a visa that lets me stay that long). but i cant seem to find where that information is. any help is welcomed

An "open ticket" is a ticket with no fixed return date that is valid for a year. They are basically full-fare, no-restrictions tickets. They are more expensive than a regular ticket that has a fixed return date. I do not think you can purchase these type of tickets online. You would have to purchase them over the phone.

It might be cheaper to just purchase a round trip ticket for a short time (return date three months after you arrive) just to fill the round-trip requirement of the country and then purchase a ticket when you know you are going to leave.

As Jabroni said, those types of tickets are not easy to come by- especially after Sept. 11th. usually they are more expensive as well. But you may consider these options:

1. Purchase a one way ticket, then buy another one way when you choose to come back. This sometimes is much more, but sometimes is not. It can be a pain at customs though explaining things depending on the country- but youll get through.
2. Better option may be to do as Jabroni said with one exception- buy a round trip ticket, but then change the date of your departure from Europe (not as he mentioned buying a whole new one-way ticket back) Change fees vary by airline, but usually arent more than 200 bucks.
