I'll be studying Arabic for one year at the University of Damascus. Advice on where should I stay, furnished apartments, things I absolutely must be bring, and internet access (very important! do they filter the internet x_x)

I should likely mention that I am a girl, will be living most likely all by myself - so will I be safe?
