I was given some bad advice over the internet concerning visas for US citizens and I wanted to let anyone interested in visiting North Africa what is correct.
I was told that obtaining a visa for Algeria would be a piece of cake from Tunisia. WRONG
While a US citizen can visit Tunisia and Morrocco with a valid passport and not need a visa, you MUST get your visa for Algeria from the Algerian Embassy located in Washington, D.C
This was a costly mistake for me , but I am ready to return. I loved the time I spent in Tunis. The people are all so warm and friendly. Everyone is willing to help you when you are in need. Don't be alarmed by all the media attention of recent years and months. I had the best reception I had ever experienced in all my travel time.

Dear fellow student,
I am actually from north africa living in the us, I do confirm that you cannot take a visa for algeria from morocco if you are not moroccan or permanent resident there.
Actually I am interested on your road map to northern africa and how did you planned it (was it through studentuniverse ?) and also how much did you budgetted for it.
Actually i am planning a similar journey but with a stay in europe of about 15 days before stepping in the african continent.
so any information is welcommed.
Thanks |

Hi!
My first trip to North Africa was originally planned through Student Universe. That one I had to cancel though.
My travel arrangements for the most recent trip were through Orbitz. This was for the flight tickets only. All of my accommodations were handled by my fiance. This time it will be similar, but I will actually get to go to western Algeria, Ouled Mimoun, Tlemcen to visit with family and friends.
The stay in Europe for 15 days sounds like it will be exciting. Do you plan to use the hostel reservation link through Student Universe? If I did not have my connections over there , the hostels would have been my first choice.
Insha Allah, you have a safe and happy trip. Let me know how it goes. _________________ عيساوي نرجس |
