Just wondering if there was anyone who has spent any time in Turkey... I'm planning on doing a study abroad in Istanbul next fall, and would appreciate any tips or advice, I'm a solo female, if that changes anything.... Thanks!

I spent 4 months in Turkey in 2004. It's an amazing place. Not sure where you're from but it can be a litle overwhelming if you're not from a big city. Istanbul is HUGE! Wonderful food. The bazaar is sensory overload. I loved it. If you like designer bags you'll be in heaven. But you have to learn how to tell the knockoffs from the real thing. The beaches are gorgeous. If you have a chance go to Bodrum. It's a fun town and it's so nice to go to the beach clubs and get treated like a queen. Turkbuku is about a half hour bus ride from there and is where all the stars visit. While I was there I saw Uma Thurman, Leo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks and tons of Turkish pop stars. As for being a solo chick just learn to wear the expression of "BACK THE **beep** OFF" Guys will hit on you. Constantly. You'll get groped at the bazaar. They'll propose and tell you they love you five minutes into the conversation. It's crazy. At first it's flattering and then annoying. I have dark hair and skin so I blended but my friend was blond and blue eyed and they never left her alone. Also don't be afraid to be rude in the bazaar. They get really pushy about selling stuff and sometimes you just have to be rude to get away from them. I spent the first month being polite and then realized it was taking me 3 hours in the bazaar to get something that should have taken 20 min. Good luck and enjoy your time there. If you want to know anything else just let me know!
